Redecorate apartment on a small budget
You know when you suddenly feel the urgent need to rearrange and completely redecorate your home? But how do you do that? Where can I find the most beautiful pieces for little money?
In the Broken House
Probably this tip is nothing new. But not all broki is the same, there are big differences between them. Many broki houses are simply too expensive. But they still exist, the really good and cheap brokis, where many treasures can be found. When I still lived in the city of Zurich, I visited Brokiland Zurich on Manessestrasse at least once a month. I loved to stroll through the shelves and look at everything. Everything there costs a maximum of 5 francs!
My absolute favorite Brockenhaus is a good drive from here. But it's always worth it! The flea market in Goldswil is housed in an old hotel and has an incredible 40 rooms spread over three floors. The rooms are very stylishly furnished, you don't have the feeling of being in a Brokenhaus at all. Price-wise, there is nothing to complain about either. I paid only 10 francs for a real leather pouf and a small rug.
At the flea market
It's incredible what individual people have for sale. From cutlery to pans to bedside tables and lamps. When I lived in Zurich, I often strolled through the Kanzlei flea market. In Winterthur, I'm now drawn to the flea and flea market in the old town on Saturdays. Even if something can't always be found - there's nothing more entertaining, in my opinion, than strolling through flea markets.
On classified ad platforms such as Tutti, Anibis and Facebook
Many of our furniture we have purchased on Tutti or Anibis. Prices range from very cheap to sometimes even free. Many advertisers are about to move and therefore want to get rid of everything as soon as possible. There are many bargains to be had!
Spruce up old & boring furniture
For my former apartment I bought three ordinary wooden Ikea chairs cheap on Tutti.ch and painted them mint green. Now they are a real eye-catcher! The same with a bedside table from Brokenhaus - so that we have more space next to our office table, we bought this for a few francs at Broki. Painted white with a beautiful ceramic knob, it is now a real eye-catcher and brightens the room visually.
DIY
He made our ingenious living room table on four castors from old wooden boxes that my friend found in his father's tinsmith's workshop. It even has storage space for laptops, charging cables and other bits and bobs. We painted the table white and varnished the table top. But not everyone has a workshop at their disposal and smaller, home-made items have just as big an impact. On websites like Pinterest, you can find an incredible number of cool ideas on how to make your own decorations. For example, hanging potted plants, a hanging wall shelf or a triangular dream catcher.
As you can see, there are countless ways to cheaply upgrade your four walls. All you need is patience, a little luck and a lot of fun looking around.
